The European View of the Jews Through Painting
Jews were an exotic subject for many European Christian painters, allowing us a glimpse into their lives before photography and opening up a critical discourse on the concept of the 'other' in the world of art. Here is a selection of their work
Muhammad Morabiti
and the shared existence of Jews and Muslims in his work
Many Moroccans create art from a place where Judaism is an integral part of the existing culture. For example, in the art center of Mohamed Morabiti, one of the most prominent artists in Morocco who grew up above a synagogue in Casablanca, stands the philosophy of the Salihin and the Sadikim. The righteous of both religions, and their presence in the pilgrimage, reflect a spiritual unity where Jews and Muslims are seen as one spiritual entity.

A Jewish creation in North Africa
Jews in North Africa played an important role in the culture. Jewish female singers such as Zohra El Fassia and Alice Fitoussi were among the first to release albums, while singers like Salim Halali, Samy Elmaghribi, and pianist Maurice El Medioni were pioneers in blending styles and creating new genres.
